Last time I wind surfed ? Well, that was ... 3 days ago in Hyeres, l'Almanarre. Near here we have another spot, Brutal Beach, La Coudouliere near Toulon, Var, France. I started windsurfing more than 25 years now, you may think I am an expert but not really; I still felt like a beginner 11 years ago when I arrived in Switzerland and tried to ride with a 6 m2 sail in 3 to 6 Beaufort gusty winds on a small lake near Martigny, Wallis. It seemed that 10 years in Marseilles had not been enough to become the French windsurfing master of the Seas, "Le petit professeur marseillais" (teacher), as some Swiss friends used to call me. My Swiss colleagues needed no lesson, they are good, even though they have no seashore, see the America Cup winners.

Swiss windsurfers, kiters and divers are highly qualified in the waters, and they usually are very well equipped : did you hear of AHD, the ex Swiss windsurf board manufacturer ? And of Swissub, maker of wetsuits and drysuits ?

Maybe one day I'll try kite surfing. I hate to follow fashion trends, but this sport must be fun. In Switzerland it's restricted to certain lakes, because a few kiters got seriously injured!

Best times in my windsurfer's life : learning how to surf on the 1st generation of boards called 'Windsurfer' back in 1981 with friends in Morocco. During the summer 2001 and 2 weeks in August 2006 in l'Almanarre, what an experience; the wind was blowing almost everyday.

Worst memories: no wind, desperately waiting for it, laying under a strong sun. You drive miles and miles and once arrived, everyone is leaving, saying they had a good session which lasted only 15 minutes (quite often in Switzerland).
